What to look for in a used Subaru
Head-gasket issues on 2.5L naturally-aspirated boxer engines from ~2000-2010 are well-documented; newer engines (2011+) largely resolved this. CVT transmission was mixed early-2010s — check for shudder under load on the test drive. Pre-2014 Foresters and Outbacks are simpler mechanically but interiors show their age. EyeSight driver-assist (2014+) is generally reliable but verify camera operation. Boxer engines need timing-belt service on older models — verify history.
